Why the edge matters
The border defines the silhouette of a patch and contributes to how it handles during attachment. It should be part of the approved specification rather than an assumed finishing detail.
Merrowed borders
A merrowed edge creates a wrapped stitched border. Its suitability depends on the shape, corners, scale and construction.
Allow room for the border in the artwork and clarify whether the quoted dimensions include it.
Laser-cut and heat-cut finishes
Laser and heat finishing can suit different outline requirements, subject to the material and process. They do not produce the same edge on every substrate.
Discuss internal cut-outs, sharp corners and narrow projections. Some artwork may require simplification or another border solution.
What to approve
| Item | Question |
|---|---|
| Outline | Does the approved drawing show the exact shape? |
| Dimensions | Do width and height include the border? |
| Colour | Does border colour match the specified reference? |
| Attachment | Is enough space available for stitching or backing? |
| Application | Will the edge be exposed or overlap another panel? |
