Patch construction and stitch options

Explore flat embroidery, 3D puff, appliqué, chenille combinations and special threads before choosing your patch construction.

Flat embroidery

Flat embroidery builds a design from stitches laid onto a base material. Stitch direction, coverage and the underlying artwork shape the texture. It is a useful starting point for many logo patches.

Fine lettering and tightly spaced details should be reviewed at the intended size. A larger artwork preview is not evidence that every detail will remain readable on a small patch.

3D puff and raised details

Puff construction introduces additional relief under selected stitched areas. Bold shapes can suit this treatment, while intricate lines may need another method.

Identify which parts of the artwork should be raised. Different areas of the design may use different constructions rather than treating the whole logo identically.

Appliqué and chenille combinations

Appliqué introduces cut fabric pieces as part of the design. Chenille gives a looped, plush surface. Combined constructions can place different textures in different areas.

Each additional material and process changes the specification. A clear construction drawing helps explain the intended layers and edges.

Special threads and handmade work

Metallic and reflective thread options can introduce a different appearance under light. Their suitability depends on the artwork and intended use. Handmade embroidery is also available for discussion.

Share the required application, care and exposure conditions before requesting performance claims for any thread or construction.

Finish the specification

Border and backing must be chosen alongside the face construction. A merrowed edge, laser-cut outline and heat-cut finish can create different results.
